Currently, it is reclaiming its initial splendour – the interior elements created by the legendary construction company “Šēls un Šefels” during the construction of the house are being restored within the apartments and on the facades and stairwells.
The tasteful refinement and testimony to affluence of the ornate facade, ceiling ornaments and cut glass form one of the most beautiful monuments to the residents of Riga at the dawn of the 20th century. Today, it has also been included in the UNESCO World Heritage and State Architectural Monument list..
In the course of reconstruction, the building’s foundations were bolstered, new overhead cover was established, the facade was restored, the roof covering was replaced, and the stairs were restored along with the flower ornaments decorating the stairwells and the matted inscriptions on the window panes. The building’s outer doors and apartment doors have recovered their former grandeur.
At the same time, all modern conveniences have also been installed in the building – two Otis lifts with glass doors and walls, a computer network, 24hr manned security with a video observation system, an outer door intercom system and an electronic water and electricity accounting system.
The lightest side of the paved courtyard will be decorated with plants and shrubs which will blossom alongside metal benches. The garden fireplace built in the courtyard will become the central element in a pleasant relaxation spot where the building residents can get together for small private gatherings. On the courtyard side, flower boxes will appear by the stairwell and first floor windows of the house.
To ensure that the territory does not lack light, lamps will light up on both sides of the entrances to the courtyard by the gates and doors. A new life will also be begun by the metal fence in the front garden which was wrought in 1906. The current trees will continue to grow in the front garden along with new plants and shrubbery. The courtyard will be locked by metal wrought gates.
Financial institutions, major public transport arteries and entertainment and leisure spots are all in the immediate vicinity. More than 25 restaurants and bars satisfying the most eclectic of tastes are within easy reach. Furthermore, the best beaches by the Gulf of Riga are only half an hour’s drive away.
The location of an apartment is self-explanatory. However, this particular area denotes inner peace and conviction. And what’s more it testifies to the fact that the real owners of Alberta No.1 are coming home – people who change history. People who are the modern equivalent of Eisenstein and Berlin, Blaumanis and Rozentāls. The building recognises their footsteps and awaits their return.
20 exclusive apartments have been built within the five-story building with a semi-basement floor – each has six or seven rooms with areas ranging from 130 to 210m2. Space for six stores or offices has additionally been planned within the semi-basement floor.
The apartments are fully prepared for interior furnishing – the decors of the 3.40 metre ceilings have been restored and painted white. Furthermore, all the interior decorative elements on the walls have been restored – cornices, covings and rosettes. The floors are covered with oak parquet. The windows and inner doors have been restored or made from scratch in line with examples of the old doors and windows. The fireplaces have been preserved and restored. On the courtyard side, starting from the second floor each apartment has a balcony. Moreover, on the facade side all the existing balconies have been restored.
