The historical centre of Rīga features a collection of unique and historically important buildings. Countless architectural masterpieces can be found in the streets which are near Skolas Street 17. The architecture of these historical buildings is inspirational because of solid materials, emotional contours, unexpected rhythm and spontaneous details.
The architecture at Skolas 17 is reminiscent of that which is historical, but with a fresh solution. The roof and chimneys are very special. The façade is covered with stone travertine and finished with hand-made and rough designs. The windows on the façade are freely placed so as to create a rich rhythm through a game of depth and shadow. Large vaulted passageways allow passers-by to see the interior courtyard, and a solid wood door invites people to come visiting.
The Finnish design won an international bid for tenders that was launched by Velves nekustamie īpašumi. The jury found that the building would fit in well with its surroundings. The excellent design and high level of detail suggest that Skolas 17 will be honoured with an annual architectural prize.
There are three buildings at Skolas Street 17, and they will feature both small studio apartments, flats for families, and a three-story row house, with each of three flats having a separate entrance from the inner courthouse. All of the flats will be fully finished.
The buildings at Skolas 17 are among Lāčplēša, Skolas and Kr. Valdemāra streets.
